School of Medicine  
The School of Medicine is a community of students, faculty and staff dedicated to excellence in education, research and service, including the care of patients. With a tradition of almost 70 years, it's one of the most important entities in the country and it has been a pioneer in several fields of knowledge. The School is actively involved in research in basic sciences, social and clinical sciences. The clinical professors are doctors from university hospitals known for their high scientific and human quality, and the main one is the Hospital Universitario San Ignacio, one of the best in the country for its complexity and high-resolution capabilities, located within the campus. The School also has Javesalud, an institution dedicated to outpatient care.
The School of Medicine has the following Departments, in charge of academic, research and services activities: Anesthesiology, Surgery and Specialties, Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Physiological Sciences, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Internal Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Morphology, Neuroscience, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Pathology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Radiology.
Academic Programs
• Premedical. The program reinforces the knowledge needed to get into the Career in Medicine and it offers a more realistic approach to what Medicine is all about, so that candidates can make an informed decision about whether to study it or not.

• Career in Medicine. Its objective is to achieve the integral education of students, so that their training for the practice of the profession is linked to their personal and social development. The School prepares students to develop a harmonious performance of professional competence, a thoughtful, critical and research habit, creative development, and training with an ethical and humane vision. The program’s recently modified curriculum is based on skills, focused on learning, and has a high level of integration of the various disciplines of medical knowledge.  
• Specializations. The School of Medicine offers Medico-Surgical Specializations in: Anesthesiology, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Dermatology, Medical Genetics, Geriatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics as well as Traumatology, Otorhinolaryngology, Pathology, Pediatrics, Prevention of Child Abuse, General Psychiatry, Radiology and Urology.

In addition to the medical and surgical options, the School has Specializations in Prevention of Child Abuse and Occupational Health, together with the School of Nursing.

  The School also offers the following options, addressed to specialists who want to be trained in the subspecialties of: Cardiology, Cardiovascular Surgery, Electrophysiology Clinic, Stimulation and Cardiac Arrhythmias, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy, Hemodynamic and Interventional Cardiology, Critical Medicine and Intensive Care, Nephrology, Pneumology, Child Orthopedics, Liaison's Psychiatry, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

  • M.S. in Clinical Epidemiology. It was the first of its kind offered in the country and it has a high academic and research level.  
Institutes and Centers
• Institute of Human Genetics. The Institute is a leader in research, teaching and clinical services in the area of human genetics in Colombia. Research interests go from the molecular characterization of various genetic diseases, to population studies.

• Institute for Health Promotion. The Institute seeks to address the health field from new perspectives. Its objective is to help with the construction and dissemination of particular knowledge for health promotion, based on a creative mode of thinking that takes advantage of contributions from different areas. This Institute strengthens the involvement of the University in the transformation of reality, through consultancy, technical assistance, research and service.

  • Institute on Aging. The Institute is dedicated to the research of one of the most relevant aspects of the twenty-first century, and one of its strongest assets is the Memory Clinic. Its research on patients over 100 years old and its interventions with the caregiver population has had national acclaim.

  • Javeriana's Cancer Center. This Center is an institution for the integral treatment of people with cancer, as well as research and training of qualified human resources  
Continuing Education Program
It is a modality of high, informal education offered by the University to society in the scientific, technological and cultural fields, with the purpose of fulfilling its role in teaching, research and social service. It is aimed at the general medical community and especially to Javeriana University's alumni. This program will actively participate in the process of professional re-certification of the School.
